Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of October 4

Ukrainian forces are advancing in the Melitopol and Bakhmut directions. They repelled Russian attacks near Avdiivka (Donetsk region) and destroyed the enemy's ammunition depot, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian shelling
Over the past day, there have been 45 clashes. The enemy launched 5 missile and 43 aviation strikes, as well as conducted 30 shelling attacks using artillery on the positions of Ukrainian troops and civilian settlements.
Unfortunately, due to Russian terrorist attacks, there have been casualties and injuries among the civilian population. Private residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure have also been damaged.
Frontline situation
The operational situation in eastern and southern Ukraine remains complex.
In the Volyn and Polissia directions, the operational situation remains unchanged, with no significant enemy offensive group formations detected.
Identified units of the Belarusian Armed Forces are fulfilling tasks in border areas with Ukraine.
In the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the enemy continues to maintain a military presence in border areas, conducts shelling of settlements from the territory of the RF, and increases the density of mine-explosive obstacles along the state border of Ukraine. Over 25 settlements suffered artillery and mortar shelling.
In the Kupiansk direction, the Ukrainian forces repelled an enemy attack in the area north of Zybyne in the Kharkiv region. The enemy carried out aviation strikes near Podoly in the Kharkiv region and Kuzemivka in the Luhansk region. Over 15 settlements were subjected to artillery and mortar shelling.
In the Lyman direction, the Armed Forces repelled 5 enemy attacks east of Makiivka in the Luhansk region and northwest of Dibrova in the Donetsk region. The enemy conducted aviation strikes near Novoselivske, Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region, and Siversk, Spirne in the Donetsk region. Over 15 settlements were affected by artillery and mortar shelling.
In the Bakhmut direction, the occupiers unsuccessfully attempted to regain lost positions in the areas of Hryhorivka and Andriivka in the Donetsk region. The aggressors conducted aviation strikes in the areas of Khromove, Chasiv Yar, Ivanivske, Klishchiivka, Toretsk, and Oleksandro-Shultyne in the Donetsk region. Over 20 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire.
In the Avdiivka direction, the Defense Forces repelled all enemy attacks in the areas of Avdiivka and Lastochkyne in the Donetsk region. The enemy carried out aviation strikes near Avdiivka. Over 10 settlements were subjected to artillery and mortar shelling.
In the Maryinka direction, the Defense Forces successfully repelled 8 enemy attacks in the area of Maryinka in the Donetsk region and 6 attacks in the areas of Krasnohorivka and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region. The enemy conducted aviation strikes near Maryinka and Novomykhailivka. Approximately 10 settlements were under enemy artillery fire.
In the Shakhtarsk direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled an enemy attack in the area of Zolota Nyva in the Donetsk region. The occupiers carried out aviation strikes near Zolota Nyva, Urozhaine, and Staromaiorske in the Donetsk region. Over 10 settlements were subjected to artillery and mortar shelling.
In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the Defense Forces successfully repelled enemy attacks in the areas of Verbove and Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region. Mala Tokmachka and Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region were affected by aviation strikes. Over 25 settlements were subjected to artillery and mortar shelling.
In the Kherson direction, the enemy conducted aviation strikes in the areas of Kozatske, Mykolaivka, and Olhivka in the Kherson region. Over 10 settlements were affected by enemy artillery and mortar fire.
Advance of the Ukrainian Armed Forces
The Ukrainian forces continue their offensive operation in the Melitopol direction, and offensive (assault) actions in the Bakhmut direction, inflicting losses on the occupying forces in manpower and equipment, and wearing down the enemy along the entire front line.
Enemy losses
During the day, the aviation of the Defense Forces launched 13 strikes on areas with concentrations of enemy personnel, weaponry, and military equipment.
Rocket forces units targeted the command post, 3 areas with concentrations of enemy personnel, weaponry, and military equipment, 10 artillery units, and an enemy ammunition depot.
The total number of losses suffered by the Russian army since the beginning of the invasion stands at 279,890 military personnel.
