Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of August 22

Ukrainian troops are advancing in the Melitopol direction, repelled a Russian attack near Maryinka, and destroyed an enemy TOS-1A heavy flamethrower system, according to the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Russian shelling
Over the past day, the enemy launched 2 missiles and 38 aviation strikes, as well as conducted 26 artillery bombardments using rocket artillery systems against Ukrainian forces' positions and civilian settlements.
Unfortunately, due to Russian terrorist attacks, there are casualties and injuries among the civilian population. Residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure have been damaged.
Frontline situation
Over the past day, 26 clashes have taken place.
In the Volyn and Polissia directions, the operational situation remains relatively unchanged.
In the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the enemy carried out mortar and artillery shelling on more than 15 settlements.
In the Kupiansk direction, enemy artillery and mortar shelling targeted Berestove, Tverdokhlibove, Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi in the Kharkiv region.
In the Lyman direction, the enemy conducted aviation strikes in the areas of Tverdokhlibove and Serebrianske Forestry in the Luhansk region. Approximately 10 settlements were hit by enemy artillery shelling.
In the Bakhmut direction, the enemy carried out an aviation strike in the area of Ivanivka in the Donetsk region. Over 15 settlements suffered from enemy artillery shelling.
In the Avdiivka direction, Ukrainian defenders successfully repelled attacks by Russian forces in the area of Avdiivka. Novokalynove, Stepove, Avdiivka, Tonenke, Umanske in the Donetsk region experienced artillery shelling.
In the Maryinka direction, Ukrainian forces continue to hold back the Russian advance in the area of Maryinka in the Donetsk region. Maryinka, Pobieda, Yelyzavetivka, Novomykhailivka, Katerynivka, Antonivka in the Donetsk region were hit by enemy artillery shelling.
In the Shakhtarsk direction, the enemy carried out aviation strikes in the areas of Vodiane and Urozhaine in the Donetsk region. Over 10 settlements were affected by enemy artillery shelling.
In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the enemy conducted aviation strikes in the areas of Mala Tokmachka, Yehorivka, and Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region. More than 15 settlements suffered from enemy artillery shelling.
In the Kherson direction, the enemy carried out an aviation strike in the area of Romashkove in the Kherson region. Novovorontsovka, Kherson, Komishany in the Kherson region were hit by enemy artillery shelling.
Ukrainian advance
The Ukrainian defense forces continue their offensive operation in the Melitopol direction, solidifying their achieved positions and conducting counter-battery actions.
Enemy losses
Over the past day, defense aviation delivered 9 strikes on enemy personnel concentration areas and 2 strikes on anti-aircraft missile complexes.
Rocket forces and artillery units hit 2 enemy personnel concentration areas, armament, and military equipment regions, 2 ammunition depots, and 1 enemy TOS-1A heavy flamethrower system.
The total number of losses for the Russian army since the beginning of the invasion stands at 258,340 soldiers.
