Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of August 8

Reports from the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces indicate that the Ukrainian defense forces are actively engaged in an ongoing offensive operation on the Melitopol and Berdiansk directions. They are successfully holding their positions and implementing counter-battery measures. Over the past 24 hours, there have been a total of 37 combat engagements.
Russian attacks
During the past day, the enemy launched 7 rocket strikes and 42 aviation attacks, along with 66 artillery bombardments from rocket salvo systems targeting Ukrainian military positions and civilian settlements. Unfortunately, these Russian terrorist attacks have led to civilian casualties and injuries, causing significant damage to residential buildings and other essential infrastructure.
The threat of missile and aviation strikes across the entire Ukraine remains substantial.
Frontline situation
On the Volyn and Polissia directions, the operational situation remains relatively stable without significant changes.
On the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the enemy executed mortar and artillery shelling on over 30 populated areas, including Mikhalychyna Sloboda, Hremiach, and Khrinivka in the Chernihiv region; Basivka, Stepok, Volfyne, and Pavlivka in the Sumy region; as well as Udy, Okhrymivka, Neskuchne, Bochkove, and Ambarne in the Kharkiv region.
Ukrainian forces on the Kupiansk direction are resiliently maintaining their defensive positions. They successfully repelled enemy attacks in the regions of Synkivka, north of Ivanivka in the Kharkiv region, and south of Novoselivka in the Luhansk region. The enemy conducted aviation strikes in the areas of Kruhliakivka and Kucherivka in the Kharkiv region. Over 15 populated areas, including Dvorichna, Zakhidne, Petropavlivka, Podoly, Krasne, and Kupiansk Vuzlovyy in the Kharkiv region, endured enemy artillery and mortar fire.
On the Lyman direction, populated areas such as Kuzmine, Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region, and Torske, Verkhniokamyanske, Spirne, and Rozdolivka in the Donetsk region experienced Russian artillery shelling.
On the Bakhmut direction, the Russians' attempts at unsuccessful advances in the regions of Andriivka, Kurdiumivka, and Druzhba in the Donetsk region were thwarted. Over 10 populated areas, including Orikhovo-Vasylivka, Ivanivske, Markove, and Chasiv Yar in the Donetsk region, were affected by enemy artillery fire.
On the Avdiivka direction, despite heavy enemy aviation and artillery fire, Ukrainian defenders successfully repelled Russian forces' attacks in the Avdiivka region. Areas such as Keramik, Nevelske, Novobakhmutivka, Avdiivka, Siverne, Tonenke, Novokalynove, and Pervomaiske in the Donetsk region experienced artillery shelling.
On the Maryinka direction, Ukrainian defense forces continue to hold back Russian troop advances. An enemy aviation strike was reported in the Maryinks area. Russian artillery shelling impacted Krasnohorivka, Oleksandropil, Hostre, Heorhiivka, Maryinka, Pobieda, Novomykhailivka, and Kostiantynivka in the Donetsk region.
On the Shakhtarsk direction, the enemy conducted aviation strikes in the Odradne region of the Donetsk region. Over 15 populated areas, including Vodyane, Vuhledar, Prechystivka, Zolota Nyva, Velyka Novosilka, Blahodatne, Storozhove, Staromayorske, and Rivnopil in the Donetsk region, were targeted by enemy artillery fire.
On the Zaporizhzhia direction, the enemy made unsuccessful attempts to regain lost positions in the Robitnyne region of the Zaporizhzhia region. Aviation strikes were launched in the areas of Huliaypilske, Mala Tokmacha, and Orikhiv. Over 15 populated areas, including Novodarivka, Komyshuvakha, Shcherbaky, Orikhiv, and Piatykhatky in the Zaporizhzhia region, as well as Nikopol in the Dnipropetrovsk region, were affected by enemy artillery fire.
On the Kherson direction, the enemy conducted aviation strikes in the regions of Zmiivka, Tomaryne, and Odradokamianka in the Kherson region. Enemy artillery fire targeted over 15 populated areas, including Olhivka, Sadove, Prydniprovske, Respublikanets, Kherson, and Kizomys.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian defense forces continue their offensive operations on the Melitopol and Berdiansk fronts, consolidating their gains and undertaking counter-battery measures.
Enemy losses
Over the past 24 hours, the Ukrainian defense forces' aviation carried out 9 strikes on enemy personnel, weaponry, and military equipment concentrations.
Ukrainian military also successfully destroyed a Russian Ka-52 helicopter and two tactical reconnaissance UAVs.
Rocket forces and artillery units struck 2 Russian command centers, 3 personnel, weaponry, and military equipment concentrations, 5 artillery systems in firing positions, and 2 enemy radar stations during the past 24 hours.
