Russia-Ukraine war - frontline update as of July 20

Russian occupiers have concentrated their efforts on the Kupiansk, Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka, and Mariupol directions. Within a day, there were 20 armed clashes were reported, according to the Facebook page of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian strikes
During the day, the Russians carried out a massive missile and air strike on the territory of Ukraine, using 3 Kalibr cruise missiles, 5 Iskander-K cruise missiles, 4 Kh-22 cruise missiles, 7 Onyx cruise missiles, and 19 Shahed-type UAVs.
In response, the Ukrainian Air Defense destroyed 2 Kalibr cruise missiles, 3 ground-based Iskander-K cruise missiles, and 13 Shahed-type strike UAVs.
"Additionally, the enemy conducted 40 aviation strikes and 46 artillery shelling attacks. Unfortunately, these Russian terrorist attacks resulted in casualties among the civilian population and caused destruction and damage to industrial facilities, residential buildings, and other civilian and administrative infrastructure," - the press service reports.
The situation on the fronts
In the Volyn and Polissya directions, the operational situation remains stable with no significant changes observed. There are no signs of the enemy forming offensive groups.
In the Siversky and Slobozhansky directions, the enemy maintains its military presence. They have conducted artillery and mortar shelling on more than 20 settlements, including Leonivka in Chernihiv Oblast; Seredyna-Buda, Volfyne in Sumy Oblast; and Udy, Kozacha Lopan, Starytsia, Vovchansk, and Budarky in Kharkiv Oblast.
In the Kupiansk direction, our troops have successfully held their defense and repelled enemy attacks southwest of Masiutivka in Kharkiv Oblast. The enemy's artillery and mortar shelling affected Dvorichna, Zapadne, Kamianka, Krasne Pereshe, Kupiansk, Kucherivka, Monachynivka, and Topoli in Kharkiv Oblast.
In the Lyman direction, settlements like Nevske, Bilohorivka in Luhansk Oblast, and Torske, Verkhnokamianske, Berestove, Kyslivka, Rozdolivka in Donetsk Oblast experienced artillery shelling.
In the Bakhmut direction, our defenders successfully repelled enemy attacks on the southwestern outskirts of Klishchiivka, despite intense enemy artillery fire. More than 10 settlements, including Vasiukivka, Bohdanivka, Chasiv Yar, and Oleksandro-Shultyne in Donetsk Oblast, were affected by enemy artillery shelling.
In the Avdiivka direction, under dense enemy aircraft and artillery fire, our defenders successfully repelled Russian troop attacks in the area of Nevelske. The enemy also conducted artillery shelling on more than 10 settlements, including Avdiivka, Karlivka, and Nevelske in Donetsk Oblast.
In the Maryinka direction, our troops continue to hold back the Russian forces' advancement in the areas of Novomykhailivka and Maryinka in Donetsk Oblast. The enemy carried out shelling on more than 10 settlements, including Krasnohorivka, Maryinka, and Heorhiivka in Donetsk Oblast.
In the Shakhtarsk direction, the enemy conducted an aircraft strike in the area of Makarivka and shelled settlements like Velyka Novosilka, Vuhledar, Blahodatne, and Odradne in Donetsk Oblast.
In the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson directions, the enemy concentrates its main efforts on preventing further advancement of our troops. They made unsuccessful attempts to regain lost positions north of Pryiutne in Zaporizhzhia Oblast.
The enemy conducted an aircraft strike in the area of Piatykhatky in Zaporizhzhia Oblast. More than 25 settlements, including Novodanilivka, Malynivka, Huliaipole, Zaliznychne, Bilohirya in Zaporizhzhia Oblast; Ponyativka, Chervonyi Mayak, Antonivka, Zymivnyk in Kherson Oblast; and the city of Kherson, were affected by enemy artillery shelling.
The advance of the Armed Forces of Ukraine continues in the Melitopol and Berdyansk directions. They are consolidating their positions on achieved front lines, inflicting fire damage on identified enemy targets using artillery, and conducting counter-battery actions.
Enemy losses
"The defense forces' aviation delivered 7 strikes on areas of enemy personnel concentration during the day. Additionally, our defenders destroyed 1 tactical-level reconnaissance UAV," the General Staff reports.
Units of missile forces and artillery during the day hit 6 enemy artillery systems on firing positions and an enemy electronic warfare station.
