Russia to pose threat for the next several years: German MoD states
In the national security strategy, Russia is mentioned as a temporary threat, and it will be perceived as such for several more years, according to German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius.
He clarifies that the role of Germany's national security strategy is not to determine who should win the war in Ukraine.
"I have clearly stated that Ukraine must achieve victory. But the definition of victory in a war can only be determined by Ukraine, not us. This is not related to our security strategy," the minister said.
He also states that for the next several years, Russia will continue to pose a threat, and Germany has no doubts about this.
Support for Ukraine
Pistorius emphasizes that Germany genuinely supports Ukraine.
"We are doing everything: we have supplied tanks, Patriot and IRIS-T air defense systems, howitzers, cannons, and other types of weapons. Sometimes it takes time to make a decision and ensure that it is indeed the right one," he said.
He also states that his responsibility, along with partners and allies, is to ensure that everyone supports Ukraine on a continuous basis, not just in the short term.
Assistance from Germany
Germany is one of the leaders among countries providing military assistance to Ukraine. Ukrainian forces have received tanks Leopard, air defense systems IRIS-T and Patriot, ammunition, vehicles, drones, various artillery pieces, and more from Berlin.
At the end of September, Germany delivered a new package of military aid to Ukraine, which included trucks, SatCom satellite communication terminals, and tank transporters.
Yesterday, it was reported that Germany had delivered a new package of military assistance to Ukraine to combat Russian aggression, including protective goggles, satellite communication terminals, and tank transporters.
