Russia targets vessels and grain storage facilities: Cabinet of Ministers reveals purpose

Russia has intensified its attacks on Ukraine's port infrastructure, targeting civilian vessels and grain storage facilities, stated Ukraine's Minister for Communities and Territories Development, Oleksii Kuleba, in a Telegram post.
He mentioned that the goal of the Russian attacks on port infrastructure is to diminish Ukraine's export potential, particularly by deliberately provoking a food crisis in regions of the world that are directly dependent on Ukrainian grain supplies.
"The primary targets of the enemy's shelling are ports, civilian vessels, and grain storage facilities," Kuleba wrote.
He noted that over the past three months, the enemy has conducted nearly 60 attacks in southern Ukraine. These attacks have resulted in damage to and destruction of nearly 300 port infrastructure facilities, 177 vehicles, and 22 civilian vessels.
Additionally, 79 civilians have been reported as casualties, including port workers, logistics company staff, and ship crews.
"Every war crime has been documented by law enforcement. Russia will be held accountable for every attack against civilians, humanity, and international law," Kuleba emphasized.
Attacks on port infrastructure
On the night of October 6, Russia shelled Odesa using drones and ballistic missiles, damaging a civilian ship during the attack. Prior to that, on September 20, the Russian forces launched another missile strike on Odesa, which resulted in damage to a civilian vessel under the flag of Antigua.
On the evening of October 9, the Russian army carried out a missile strike in the Odesa region. According to local authorities, it again targeted the port infrastructure, damaging a civilian vessel under the flag of Panama - the container ship Shui Spirit.
