Russia targets Ukrainian railways to spark unrest – Zelenskyy

Russians are carrying out terrorist attacks against Ukraine's railway and energy infrastructure to create additional problems in the country's rear. Ukraine is responding with strikes on Russian logistics while avoiding civilian casualties, President Zelenskyy said at a press briefing on September 17 after his meeting with European Parliament President Roberta Metsola.
Zelenskyy recalled that Russians had been striking civilian targets in Ukraine for a long time. The enemy paid special attention to energy and railway infrastructure. The Russians will continue, and in doing so, they kill civilians.
"We, in turn, carried out some operations in response. I believe the results were excellent. One operation lasted two months. And I think it had a significant public impact," the president said.
Zelenskyy also reminded that Russian forces do not consider the fact that they are killing civilians during their attacks, since these are terrorist acts against Ukraine. Ukraine, unlike Russia, does not allow casualties during its attacks on Russian targets.
Russian forces want to create problems for Ukraine in the rear, including logistics, and ultimately provoke the same kind of public unrest that already exists in Russia. That is why they chose this tactic.
"Well, and they are preparing, just as we are preparing for the heating season, they are also preparing for the heating season. They already have their own lines there. I think we are acting correctly," Zelenskyy concluded.
Earlier, it was reported that since July, Russians had launched a wave of massive attacks on Ukraine's railway infrastructure. The enemy has been trying to strike railway hubs in Ukraine, while Ukrainian forces respond with attacks on Russian railway stations.
In particular, on the night of September 17, the Russian army struck Ukrzaliznytsia. The company warned about schedule delays and the cancellation of some trains. With the drone strike, the enemy tried to turn off Ukrzaliznytsia's substations that power the railway network.
