Russia targeting Ukraine’s energy before winter - Zelenskyy

Russia is trying to disrupt preparations for winter by attacking Ukraine's energy infrastructure. Ukraine is receiving help from European countries, in particular Norway, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Russian attacks on Ukraine's energy sector
"Russia is trying to disrupt our preparations for winter by attacking our energy infrastructure. This applies not only to electricity and heat generation, but also to the extraction of our natural gas," said the head of state.
During a meeting with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, he stressed that Russia's attacks directly affect people's lives and normal living conditions in cities and communities.
Norway's support
Zelenskyy expressed gratitude for the assistance Ukraine receives from its partners, particularly Norway. "We greatly appreciate the assistance Norway provides to Ukraine for the purchase of gas. It directly helps protect people's lives and normal living conditions in our cities and communities," he said.
Ukraine's President recalled that this cooperation had already yielded results last winter. "Last winter, at least one million Ukrainian families had heat thanks to our cooperation with Norway," Zelenskyy emphasized.
Expectations for future
The head of state said that the challenges remain serious in the new heating season.
"This year's challenges are also significant. Norway has already decided to support our gas purchases, and we are very much counting on Norway's next steps," the President said.
In August, the Norwegian government decided to allocate nearly $100 million to Ukraine for the purchase of imported natural gas.
Due to Russian strikes on gas infrastructure, Ukraine has reduced gas production. Ukraine will be forced to import large volumes of gas from Europe this year.
