The IAEA has documented the aftermath of the Russian drone attack on the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. Some of the equipment used for monitoring was damaged, according to the International Atomic Energy Agency.

An IAEA team visited the External Radiation Monitoring Laboratory (ERML) at the Zaporizhzhia NPP, one day after a drone attacked the plant.

The team found damage to some of the laboratory’s meteorological monitoring equipment, which is now inoperable.

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi once again emphasized the critical importance of adhering to nuclear safety principles. He called for maximum military restraint near all nuclear facilities to avoid the risk of a catastrophe.

Russia continues its nuclear terror.

On Sunday, May 3, a Russian drone was once again detected entering the territory of the Zaporizhzhia NPP. On that occasion, the drone attacked the external radiation monitoring laboratory near the Zaporizhzhia NPP.

In the spring of 2026, a Russian drone killed a driver near the Zaporizhzhia NPP. The strike hit a transport workshop near the plant site, once again highlighting the risks to personnel.

To assess the condition of the critical infrastructure on which the NPP's operation depends, the IAEA sent a mission to Ukraine to inspect the NPP’s substations. This inspection marked the agency’s seventh such mission.
