Russian forces launched a drone and missile attack on Ukraine during the night of June 8, with confirmed strikes in five locations, according to the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Telegram.

According to the report, the enemy carried out the attack using:

  • 49 Shahed drones and various types of decoy drones, launched from the areas of Kursk, Millerovo, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk;

  • one Oniks anti-ship missile, launched from Crimea;

  • two Kh-59/69 guided air-to-surface missiles, launched from airspace over Zaporizhzhia region.

The attack was repelled by Ukrainian defense forces, including aviation, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare and unmanned systems units, as well as mobile fire groups.

Ukrainian air defense forces neutralized 40 drones over the east, south, north, and center of the country: 22 were shot down, while 18 were either lost due to signal disruption or suppressed by electronic warfare.

According to the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the main directions of the aerial strike were Kharkiv and Donetsk regions. Strikes were recorded in five locations.

Massive Russian attacks

As a reminder, during the night of June 6, Russia launched a large-scale attack on Ukraine using Shahed drones, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles. Several regions came under fire, including Kyiv, Chernihiv, Lutsk, Ternopil, Kremenchuk, and Kyiv and Lviv regions.

In Kyiv, three emergency workers were killed during the attack. More on the consequences of that strike can be found in the RBC-Ukraine report.

On the night of June 7, Russian forces hit Kharkiv. The city’s mayor described the shelling as the most powerful since the start of the full-scale war. The attack resulted in fatalities and many injuries.
