Russia strikes Ukraine with missiles and drones overnight: Air defense's work reported
On the night of September 24, the Ukrainian Air Force's radio engineering troops detected and tracked 85 Russian drones. The main direction of the Russian attack was the north and center of Ukraine, according to the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In particular, for the night attack, the Russians used:
- 1 Iskander-M ballistic missile from Rostov region of Russia;
- 1 Kh-59/69 guided missiles from the airspace of the Bryansk region of Russia;
- 1 missile (type to be determined) from Kursk region of Russia;
- 81 strike drones from the Kursk and Primorsko-Akhtarsk regions of Russia.
The air attack was repelled by aviation forces, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare units, and mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Air Force and Defense Forces.
As a result of the anti-aircraft battle, 66 Russian Shaheds were shot down in Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Cherkasy, Vinnytsia, Kirovohrad, Poltava, Sumy, and Mykolaiv regions. Another 13 drones were lost in several areas due to active counteraction by the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
Russian night attack on Ukraine
On the evening of September 23, Kyiv and several regions of Ukraine were put on air alert due to the threat of Russian missile attacks.
First, the alarm sounded in the northern and eastern regions, and at around 10:47 p.m. it was announced in Kyiv and the central regions. At that time, the Ukrainian Air Force reported the detection of a high-speed target in the Chernihiv region, moving toward Kyiv.
Later it became known that Air Defense Forces were working in Kyiv region to repel Russian attacks.
At the same time, explosions were heard in Kharkiv at night, including a missile strike in the Kyiv district of the city.
In addition, Russian forces conducted an air strike in Zaporizhzhia late in the evening. Russian attack killed a man and injured 6 other people, including a 13-year-old girl and a 15-year-old boy.
