Russia strikes Ukraine with drones overnight: Ukrainian air defense in action
On the night of June 19, Russian invaders launched 21 Shahed-type attack drones to launch an air attack on the territory of Ukraine. Ukrainian Air Defense Forces and assets shot down most of the Russian drones, according to the commander of the Ukrainian Air Force, Lieutenant General Mykola Oleshchuk.
Russia launched the kamikaze drones at Ukraine from the directions of Russian Primorsko-Akhtarsk and Cape Chauda in temporarily occupied Crimea.
Repulsing attack
The general says that Russian drones were shot down over the territory of six regions, namely:
- Kherson
- Mykolaiv
- Dnipropetrovsk
- Kirovohrad
- Khmelnytskyi
- Lviv.
As a result of combat operations, 19 Russian attack UAVs of the Shahed type were shot down.
"The Russian air attack was repelled by fighter aircraft, anti-aircraft missile units, and electronic warfare of the Ukrainian Air Force, mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defense Forces," the general says.
Russian night Shahed attack on Ukraine
On the night of June 19, the Russian occupiers again attacked Ukraine with Shahed-type attack drones. Due to the Russian attack, an air alert was declared in various regions of Ukraine.
Ukrainian air defense systems were operating near Lviv due to a Russian kamikaze drone that was spotted in the city's vicinity. Lviv Mayor Andrii Sadovyi reported a Russian strike in the village of Malekhiv and a man was wounded. He was hospitalized.
Later, the Lviv City Hall clarified the consequences and showed photos. Thus, the Russian air attack in Malekhiv damaged a high-rise building, private sector buildings, and an office building. Later, at about half past six in the morning, an explosion was heard in Malekhiv again, and air defense systems were operating.
In addition, the Lviv Regional Military Administration said that 5 out of 5 Shaheds were shot down over the Lviv region overnight.
One of the kamikaze drones was shot down in the Dnipropetrovsk region, namely in the Kryvyi Rih district.
