On the night of December 18, Russia struck Ukraine with 81 Shahed drones and other types of drones. Ukrainian air defense forces destroyed 51 of them.

The drones, according to the Ukrainian Air Force, were launched from the Russian cities of Bryansk, Kursk, Millerovo, and Orel.

The following Ukrainian forces were involved in repelling the Russian air attack:

  • aviation;
  • anti-aircraft missile troops;
  • electronic warfare units;
  • mobile fire groups of the Air Force and the Defense Forces of Ukraine.

As of 9 a.m., 51 Shahed drones and other types of drones were confirmed downed in Poltava, Sumy, Kharkiv, Kyiv, and many other regions.

In particular, 30 imitator drones were lost locally without any negative consequences.

“No hits were recorded, no information on damage or casualties was received,” Ukrainian Air Force added.

Russian shelling of Ukraine

Russia resorts to regular shelling of Ukrainian territory, which poses a serious threat to the civilian population. Russia strikes Ukraine with missiles, artillery, drones, and guided aerial bombs.

In particular, in recent months, Russians have been launching drones against Ukraine almost every night. For example, on the night of December 17, Russia used 31 drones. At the same time, Ukrainian air defense managed to destroy 20 of them.
