Russia has launched 21 ballistic missiles at Kyiv in three waves since last night. Two people have been killed and dozens wounded, including children. Even a monastery was damaged, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Consequences of Russian strike on Kyiv
"Unfortunately, numerous sites across the city have been hit and damaged: ordinary residential buildings, energy facilities, infrastructure at one of the railway stations and the metro, shopping malls, and businesses," Zelenskyy writes.
According to him, emergency services are working everywhere. 12 regions came under Russian attack last night.
The President reports that 34 people were injured in Kyiv and the regions, including 5 children. So far, 2 deaths have been confirmed.
"Almost immediately after another round of talks, Russia launched a pointed attack. This means there has been no real change in its attitude toward everything that is happening," Zelenskyy emphasizes.
"It is important to keep trying to find the right solutions to end this war. But when Russia responds to negotiations with ballistic missiles, real pressure on Russia is needed to bring about different steps – steps toward ending the killing," the President writes.
He outlines exactly what is needed: strengthening air defense and the rapid delivery of missiles, the capability to destroy ballistic missile launchers, and sanctions for the war.
"I am grateful to everyone who sees the situation for what it is and acknowledges the reality. The aggressor deserves to be treated accordingly. Ukraine deserves support. People's lives deserve protection," Zelenskyy concludes.
On the morning of October 22, traffic across the Pivdennyi (South) Bridge from the right bank to the left bank was restricted due to a Russian attack on Kyiv.
Kyiv emergency responders reported one fatality and 22 injured.
The Russians struck six districts of Kyiv simultaneously with ballistic missiles.
