On the night of September 8, Russia attacked Ukraine with 142 Shahed and Gerbera strike drones, as well as other types of drones, 112 of which were shot down by the Ukrainian Air Force.

Among the nearly 150 Russian drones that attacked Ukraine, 100 were Shahed drones.

Russia launched drones from the following directions: Bryansk, Orel, Primorsko-Akhtarsk, and Chauda (TOT Crimea).

"Russian air attack was repelled by aviation, anti-aircraft missile forces, electronic warfare and unmanned systems units, and mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defense Forces," the Ukrainian Air Force wrote.

According to preliminary data, as of 8:30 a.m. Kyiv time, on September 8, Ukrainian air defense forces shot down/suppressed 112 Russian Shahed and Gerbera drones and other types of unmanned aerial vehicles in the north, south, east, and center of Ukraine.

26 Russian drones were recorded hitting 7 locations, with debris from downed drones falling in one location.

Several Russian drones are still in the Ukrainian airspace.

On the night of September 8, Russia attacked the Kyiv region with drones, resulting in power outages. There were reports online that the Trypilska Thermal Power Plant was under Russian attack.

A day earlier, the Russians launched a record number of drones against Ukraine — 810 units. Ukrainian air defense forces destroyed 747 Russian drones.

In August, Russia resumed strikes on Ukraine's energy facilities. Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin said that such attacks would continue.

At the same time, on September 1, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy instructed National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov to coordinate officials, regional administrations, and energy companies to purchase short- and medium-range air defense systems.

According to Zelenskyy, the main purpose of the air defense purchases is to shoot down Russian Shahed drones. The President has ordered weekly reports on deliveries.
