Russian forces attacked energy facilities overnight in seven regions, causing significant power outages, the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine reported.
"This night, the enemy carried out another strike on Ukraine's energy sector. As a result of the attack, consumers were left without electricity in Odesa, Zhytomyr, Sumy, Kharkiv, Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, and Chernihiv regions," said Ukrainian Deputy Energy Minister Roman Andarak.
According to him, energy workers began emergency repair and restoration work overnight. Repair work is ongoing in Odesa and Zhytomyr regions to restore power supply to consumers.
In addition, in the Chernihiv region, an energy infrastructure facility was damaged as a result of enemy shelling. A number of settlements were left without electricity. Power restoration will begin as soon as the security situation allows.
Power situation in Kyiv and the Kyiv region
Restoration work is ongoing in Kyiv and the Kyiv region. Emergency power outages are being applied in parts of both the right and left banks of the city. A gradual transition from emergency restrictions to forecast hourly outage schedules is underway.
Due to adverse weather conditions, 161 settlements are without power in the Kyiv region, 48 in the Zakarpattia region, 36 in the Dnipropetrovsk region, and 15 in the Chernihiv region. Oblenergo (regional state-owned electricity distribution companies) repair crews are working to restore damaged power lines.
Where emergency outages are in effect
According to Andarak, hourly outage schedules are currently in place in most regions. Emergency schedules are being applied in Kyiv and Kyiv region, as well as in Odesa, Kharkiv, and Donetsk regions. Their duration may depend on a significant drop in air temperature.
Russian strikes on Ukraine's energy sector
Russian forces continue systematic strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, attacking facilities across all regions of the country.
During the overnight attack on January 12 in the Odesa region, energy facilities and an administrative building were damaged. According to local authorities, power outages occurred in several settlements of the area and in a residential district of Odesa.
