Russia strikes thermal power facility in Ukraine's Kyiv region

One of the thermal power plants near Kyiv was damaged during heavy Russian strikes. Rescuers and energy workers are dealing with the aftermath, according to the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine.
"One of the thermal power plants in the Kyiv region came under heavy Russian attack," the statement says.
The Ministry stresses that the purpose of the Russian strike was obvious—to cause even more hardship to the civilian population. Russia seeks to leave Ukrainian homes, hospitals, kindergartens, and schools without light and heat.
"Power generation facilities, electricity transmission and distribution systems, and gas infrastructure are not military targets. Russia clearly understands that it is striking critical CIVILIAN infrastructure," the Ministry said.
Elimination of consequences
Rescuers and energy workers are currently working to eliminate the consequences of the Russian strike. The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine emphasized that it is doing everything possible to stabilize the situation as quickly as possible.
Citizens are urged to follow official announcements regarding possible changes in energy supply.
Russian strikes on Ukraine's energy facilities
In August, Russia resumed strikes on Ukraine's energy facilities. Russia no longer hides its intention to continue attacks on energy facilities. Vladimir Putin publicly stated this at a meeting with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Russia was trying to disrupt preparations for winter by attacking energy infrastructure.
Due to Russian strikes on gas infrastructure, Ukraine has reduced gas production. Ukraine will be forced to import large volumes of gas from Europe this year.
