Russia strikes Lviv with Kh-101 missiles carrying cluster warheads

Today, on August 21, Russia attacked Lviv with Kh-101 cruise missiles equipped with cluster warheads. Due to the enemy strike, buildings were damaged, and there were casualties, the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office reports.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, Ukrainian air defense forces shot down three Kh-101 cruise missiles with cluster warheads during the massive Russian strike on Lviv. At the same time, several strike drones were recorded hitting the city.
The attack damaged an administrative building where five people were sheltering at the time. They were unharmed. The blast wave also damaged nearby buildings, breaking windows and doors.
In addition, debris from the downed missiles damaged private homes and farm buildings.
“Preliminarily, one person has been confirmed dead. Two men sustained injuries and were treated on-site by medical personnel, and another injured person was taken to a hospital,” the report said.
Recovery operations are ongoing, and prosecutors, together with other services, are documenting Russian war crimes. A pre-trial investigation has been launched for violations of the laws and customs of war.
Attack on Lviv on August 21
On the night and morning of August 21, Russia carried out a massive strike across Ukraine, launching hundreds of drones and missiles - including hypersonic, ballistic, and cruise types. Areas affected included Mukachevo, Lviv, Zaporizhzhia, as well as settlements in the Dnipropetrovsk region and Volyn.
In Lviv, the enemy used attack drones and missiles. One of the hits occurred on Olena Stepanivna Street, where the blast wave damaged dozens of houses.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia launched over 600 drones and missiles in total, of which air defense forces shot down or suppressed 577 targets, including hypersonic Kinzhal missiles and Kalibr cruise missiles.
The Center for Countering Disinformation (CPD) stated that the attacks have no military purpose; they are solely intended to intimidate people and prolong the war.
