On the night of September 3, Russia once again carried out a combined strike on Ukraine. The attacks caused fires, damage, and there are reports of casualties.
RBC-Ukraine reports everything currently known about the Russian overnight strike.
Key questions:
- Russia launched Shahed drones and cruise missiles at Ukraine.
- The attacks targeted western Ukraine, the Kyiv region, the Kirovohrad region, and other areas.
- Fires, damage, and casualties were reported in the Kirovohrad region, Kyiv, and Khmelnytskyi.
How the enemy attacked
According to the Ukrainian Air Forces, the attacks involved strike drones and various types of cruise missiles. Drones were first detected in the air on the evening of September 2. The first drones entered via the Chernihiv region at 05:55 p.m. Kyiv time, after which their numbers steadily increased.
Closer to nighttime, it became clear that the main target of the enemy was western Ukraine, although there were impacts in other cities as well.
Monitoring channels reported during the night that Russia had deployed strategic bombers - Tu-95MS and Tu-160 - into the air and also moved them into the Black Sea, though this was not officially confirmed.
By 4 a.m. Kyiv time, it was officially confirmed that cruise missiles were being detected in Ukraine’s airspace from the south and east of the country, primarily heading toward western Ukraine.
Consequences of the attack
Lutsk
During the night, Russian forces repeatedly attempted to strike Lutsk with drones. Explosions were heard throughout the city, and by morning, it became clear that there was some damage as a result of the attack.
"Damage to civilian infrastructure as of now: two garages and an outbuilding burned, and another outbuilding was damaged by debris. A private cargo vehicle was destroyed," wrote Mayor Ihor Polishchuk.
Khmelnytskyi
Throughout the night and morning, the enemy shelled the city of Khmelnytskyi, using drones and, apparently, missiles as well.
Later, Mayor Oleksandr Symchyshyn reported that the attack caused damage and fires. Additionally, windows were broken. There was no information about casualties at that time. By morning, further details emerged:
"Due to the shelling, public transport will operate with significant deviations from schedules and with a reduced number of vehicles," the city council reported.
Kyiv region
During the night, the occupiers carried out a massive drone attack on the Kyiv region, including Vyshhorod.
According to the head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, Mykola Kalashnyk, there were no casualties, but there was damage.
"As a result of the enemy attack, debris from a downed drone caught fire between residential high-rise buildings. The vehicle and building windows were damaged. The fire has been extinguished," he wrote during the night.
Kirovohrad region
In the Kirovohrad region, the Znamianka community came under enemy attack. According to the State Emergency Service, five people were injured, 28 houses were damaged, and one was destroyed. There were also fires, and infrastructure facilities were affected.
Additionally, the head of the Regional Military Administration, Andrii Raykovych, reported that facilities of Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways) were attacked. The company later confirmed the attack, reporting four injured railway workers and delays of over 20 trains.
According to Ukrzaliznytsia, the delays were caused by damage to railway infrastructure from the enemy attack.
