Russia strikes facilities of Ukraine's state energy giant for three straight days

Russia's massive attack on the facilities of Ukraine's state energy company Naftogaz has halted operations at Ukrnafta's production asset and caused significant damage to civilian infrastructure in several regions of Ukraine, the company reports.
Details of Russian attacks
Russian army struck Ukrnafta's production assets and drilling site on the night of August 9, forcing them to halt operations.
Overall, Russia launched dozens of strike drones at production infrastructure, causing significant damage and disabling some equipment.
Other facilities belonging to the group were also targeted:
- On August 7 and 8, seven UKRNAFTA gas stations in the Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Mykolaiv regions came under drone attacks.
- On August 8, Russia used strike drones against Naftogaz production facilities in central Ukraine, causing serious damage.
Thanks to timely sheltering and safety measures, employees at the targeted facilities were not injured. However, one gas station employee was wounded during one of the attacks and is currently hospitalized.
Purpose of Russia's attacks
According to Serhii Fedorenko, acting chairman of the Naftogaz board, the intensity of attacks on Ukraine's oil and gas infrastructure has increased significantly in recent days.
"It is obvious that the enemy's goal is to inflict maximum damage on Ukrainian production and other critical infrastructure to prevent preparations for the heating season. Our priority is to protect people's lives and continue working even under such difficult circumstances," Fedorenko stressed.
Russian attacks on Naftogaz facilities
As previously reported, Russia regularly carries out massive strikes on civilian and critical infrastructure of Naftogaz Group.
On August 7, Russian forces launched a massive attack on Ukrnafta's production facilities in eastern Ukraine. The strikes destroyed critical equipment and forced several facilities to halt operations.
Russia also attacked four gas stations in the Zaporizhzhia and Dnipropetrovsk regions.
The company also reported that throughout 2026, systematic Russian attacks destroyed 37 gas stations belonging to Naftogaz Group.
Energy workers and company employees have managed to repair some facilities and restore their operations, but Russia continues to launch repeated strikes.
