Russia launches one of its largest attacks on oil and gas extraction company in eastern Ukraine

Russian forces launched a massive strike on Ukrnafta facilities (the largest oil and natural gas extraction company in Ukraine) in eastern Ukraine, destroying critical equipment and forcing the shutdown of several production sites, according to a statement from Naftogaz on Telegram.
Massive strike on energy production
Overnight, Russian forces deliberately targeted seven Ukrnafta assets (part of the Naftogaz Group) that support oil and gas production in eastern Ukraine.
The destruction of critical equipment has resulted in significant production losses for the company.
"Russia is systematically attacking Ukraine's oil and gas production sector in an attempt to inflict maximum damage on our infrastructure ahead of winter. Last night saw the largest attack on Ukrnafta facilities in recent months. Fortunately, no one was injured," acting Naftogaz CEO Serhii Fedorenko said.
Fuel stations in two regions also targeted
In addition to production facilities, the company's civilian infrastructure also came under Russian attack.
Over the past 24 hours, Russian forces struck four UKRNAFTA filling stations in the Zaporizhzhia and Dnipropetrovsk regions.
No employees or customers were injured in the attacks.
Systematic Russian attacks on Naftogaz facilities
Russia has repeatedly carried out large-scale strikes on civilian and critical infrastructure belonging to the Naftogaz Group, seeking to disrupt resource extraction and destroy the country's fuel network.
In early August, Russian forces launched another major attack, deliberately targeting retail fuel infrastructure. Following the strike, Naftogaz said that 37 filling stations belonging to its network had been destroyed in Russian attacks in 2026.
In addition, production facilities in eastern and frontline regions remain under constant Russian fire. In July, Russia struck Naftogaz gas production sites in the Kharkiv region for three consecutive days, causing extensive damage to production facilities.
Earlier in the summer, Russia also attacked Naftogaz facilities in three regions, forcing them to suspend operations. The strikes triggered large fires and caused significant damage to infrastructure, undermining Ukraine's preparations for the upcoming heating season.
