On the night of Monday, January 19, Russian troops struck energy infrastructure in the Chernihiv region. As a result of the Russian attack, five key energy facilities were damaged, leaving tens of thousands of consumers without electricity, according to the Chernihivoblenergo energy company.

"During the night, the Russians damaged as many as five important energy facilities in the Chernihiv region. Tens of thousands of residents were left without power. Energy workers are working on restoration, but due to the security situation, this process may be delayed," the statement says.

Energy workers note that repair crews are working in difficult conditions and are doing everything possible to restore power to homes as quickly as possible.

Ukrenergo confirms strikes on several regions

Ukrenergo specified that over the past day, Russia attacked energy infrastructure in several regions of Ukraine at once.

As of this morning, power outages have been reported in:

  • Chernihiv region;
  • Odesa region;
  • Sumy region;
  • Kharkiv region;
  • Dnipropetrovsk region.

Emergency repair work has begun wherever the security situation allows.

Emergency power cuts and consumption restrictions

Due to damage to energy facilities and the overall difficult situation in the energy system, emergency power cuts are being implemented in some regions. Previously published schedules of hourly power cuts in these regions are temporarily suspended.

Ukrenergo emphasizes that emergency power cuts will be canceled as soon as the situation stabilizes. Ukrainians are urged to follow the official announcements of their regional power companies.

Russian strikes on Chernihiv region

On the night of January 5, Russian troops carried out a combined strike on Chernihiv, resulting in significant damage to the city's civilian infrastructure.

On January 12, during the Russian strikes on the Novgorod-Siverskyi district of the Chernihiv region, an important energy infrastructure facility was hit. This caused power outages in the communities of the district.

The day before, another Russian attack in the Chernihiv region damaged an energy facility, leading to power outages in many settlements in the region.
