Russia strengthens its air defense in Crimea, sacrificing other areas: Navy explains reason

Russia is saturating the temporarily occupied Crimea with air defense systems in an attempt to maintain control over the peninsula. As a result, some regions of Russia are suffering, states Dmytro Pletenchuk, a representative of the Ukrainian Navy.

According to him, Crimea is heavily saturated with air defense systems.

"Sometimes it even looks a bit strange – for us, not for them – because the actual density of coverage in Crimea is higher than in many other areas, including within Russia itself," Pletenchuk emphasized.

He clarified that for the Russians, Crimea holds significant logistical and symbolic importance.

Pletenchuk noted that Ukrainian forces have been destroying and continue to destroy enemy air defense systems on the peninsula.

The representative of the Navy pointed out that under sanctions, Russia is forced to extract electronic components for its air defense systems, and Russia has problems with that.

Successful work of Ukrainian soldiers

Today, on May 12, in the morning, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported that Ukrainian soldiers had managed to destroy three more Russian air defense systems.

The military command did not specify the exact direction which this took place.
