Russia speeding up missile production, intelligence shows growing stockpiles

Russia produces nearly 200 missiles of various types each month, with Ukrainian intelligence reporting a steady increase in production volumes, according to RBC-Ukraine.
According to the agency, Russia manufactures up to 195 missiles of different types each month.
In particular, monthly production includes up to 60 Iskander-M missiles, up to 20 Iskander-K missiles, up to 60 Kh-101 cruise missiles, and up to 10 modernized Kh-32 missiles.
In addition, Russia produces up to 30 Kalibr missiles and up to 15 Kinzhal hypersonic missiles each month.
The Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR) noted that compared to last year, Russia has increased production volumes for certain missile types by an average of 10–20%.
Russia’s missile production
As of June 15, 2025, Russia has over 1,950 strategic missiles of various types in service, including ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and hypersonic Kinzhals.
Moreover, Moscow possesses thousands of Shahed-136 strike drones and their variants, according to Ukraine’s military intelligence (HUR).
At the same time, it has been reported that the Russian army may have around 500 ballistic missiles at its disposal, which are particularly difficult to intercept.
According to media sources, while Ukraine still has a chance to counter drones and cruise missiles, the outlook for defending against ballistic strikes is more troubling.
The reports note that Ukraine, once a top priority for the administration of former US President Joe Biden, has now become one of many potential clients competing for Lockheed Martin’s limited production capacity.
Although the company is increasing production of the PAC-3 missile for the Patriot system to 650 units per year, this is still roughly 100 fewer than Russia’s projected annual output of ballistic missiles.
