Russia shifts tactics in attempts to seize Pokrovsk, Ukraine's military say

Russian forces are preparing for a "decisive breakthrough" in the Pokrovsk area. To this end, they are pulling forces and equipment into the city. However, Ukraine's Defense Forces are controlling the situation and holding their positions in the Pokrovsk direction, the 7th Army Corps of the Air Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports.
Russian troops recently redeployed experienced marine units to the Pokrovsk area and adjusted their tactics. The Russians are attempting to infiltrate deeper into the city in small groups or even as individual soldiers, trying to avoid direct engagement with Ukrainian troops.
"The enemy's main goal in Pokrovsk: to get as close as possible to the positions of drone operators or mortar crews, to try to disperse our defense forces, gain a foothold in new positions, and also expand the boundaries of the 'gray zone'," the statement says.
Meanwhile, on the flanks, the enemy has intensified assault operations using armored, automotive, and motorcycle equipment. In this way, the Russians are attempting to cut off the logistics of Ukrainian forces and encircle the Pokrovsk agglomeration.
At the same time, the number of airstrikes on Ukrainian Armed Forces positions has decreased, but the enemy is actively terrorizing civilian targets in the rear. As of the end of August, nearly 100% of Pokrovsk's residential buildings have been destroyed or damaged.
"Russia plans to use its group in the Donetsk region for a so-called 'decisive breakthrough' involving a large number of personnel and equipment. The enemy’s key objective remains unchanged - the capture of the Pokrovsk-Kramatorsk-Sloviansk agglomeration," noted the 7th Army Corps of the Air Assault Forces.
As previously reported, 184 combat clashes took place on the front line over the past day, September 5. The majority occurred in the Pokrovsk direction, where Russian forces are attempting to advance. In total, on September 5, Ukrainian troops eliminated 960 Russian invaders.
Earlier, Ukrainian defenders succeeded in liberating the village of Novoeconomichne from Russian occupation. It is located near Pokrovsk.
