Russian troops are still trying to establish a buffer zone in Ukraine’s Sumy region but have not achieved significant success, according to Oleh Hryhorov, head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration.

"At present, the enemy continues its attempts to create a buffer zone in our region, but is making no significant progress. Meanwhile, the enemy is using its usual tactic of destroying civilian infrastructure. This is happening in the villages of Zhuravka and Veselivka in the Khotin community, as well as Basivka and Novenke in the Yunakivka community,” Hryhorov stated.

He explained that these settlements are located in a gray zone where active combat is taking place. The settlements are not under Russian control, and there is currently no talk of occupation. All civilians have been fully evacuated from these areas.

Russia's spring offensive

Recently, it became known that the Ukrainian military is preparing for a potential increase in Russian offensive operations across much of the front line by late spring or early summer.

According to RBC-Ukraine's sources, Ukrainian military leadership suspects that Russia may launch an offensive in the border areas of Sumy and Kharkiv regions.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s Commander-in-Chief, Oleksandr Syrskyi, confirmed that Russia has already launched its offensive in these directions.

He stated that Russia wants to establish a buffer zone in the Kharkiv, Sumy, and Chernihiv regions.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Russia’s spring offensive is already underway. With warmer weather, the ground is firming up, and leaves on trees reduce the effectiveness of Ukrainian drones.

More details on whether Russia is planning a full-scale offensive can be found in the material by RBC-Ukraine.
