Russia's spending on drone and missile attacks on Ukraine revealed since 2022
Russia is spending astronomical amounts on drone and missile strikes on Ukraine, money that could have been used for the country's infrastructure, reports the Center for Countering Disinformation.
According to open sources, since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion, over $18 billion has been spent on missile strikes and drone attacks on Ukraine, which is equivalent to more than 1.8 trillion rubles.
"These funds could have been directed towards regional development, building schools, hospitals, and infrastructure," the Center for Countering Disinformation notes.
For example, St. Petersburg's expenditures for 2024 amount to 1.3 trillion rubles ($13 billion), which is equivalent to 1.38 times the city's annual budget. To put this into perspective, the amount spent on attacks against Ukraine is greater than the combined budgets of Sverdlovsk region for over four years.
Russian attacks on Ukraine
Russian forces are continuously shelling Ukraine. The occupiers most often carry out combined attacks, using both drones and missiles simultaneously. However, there are also solo strikes.
On November 21, during a missile attack on Ukraine, Russian forces used an intercontinental ballistic missile. As Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated, Russian President Vladimir Putin is using Ukraine as a testing ground.
It is also noted that the Institute for the Study of War believes that Russia is planning to conduct further ballistic missile test launches, which are expected to take place in the coming days.
Additionally, earlier reports indicated that Russia intends to launch round-the-clock drone attacks on Ukraine and is using decoy drones to distract air defense systems.
