Russia's losses in Ukraine as of September 9: +950 troops and over 30 artillery systems

It is now the 1,294th day of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine. Over the past day, from September 8 to 9, Russian forces lost 950 soldiers at the front. Ukrainian defenders also destroyed artillery systems, drones, and other enemy equipment, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The total combat Russian losses from February 24, 2022, to September 9, 2025, are estimated to be:
- Personnel - approximately 1,090,010 (+950) Russian troops were eliminated;
- Tanks - 11,169 (+1);
- Troop-carrying AFVs - 23,261 (+3);
- Artillery systems - 32,577 (+32);
- MLRS - 1,482 (+1);
- Anti-aircraft systems - 1,217;
- Aircraft - 422;
- Helicopters - 341;
- UAV operational-tactical level - 57,504 (+226);
- Cruise missiles - 3,691;
- Warships/boats - 28;
- Submarines - 1;
- Vehicles and fuel tanks - 61,207 (+72);
- Special equipment - 3,963 (+2).
Situation on the front lines
Over the past day, the Russian army carried out at least one missile strike and 51 airstrikes, using five missiles and dropping 95 guided bombs. In addition, they deployed 1,952 kamikaze drones for attacks and launched 3,449 shellings against Ukrainian military positions and settlements.
For reference, ISW assesses that the Donetsk region will remain the key direction for Russia this fall.
