Frontline situation

Ukraine's June 18 strikes on Moscow exposed weaknesses in Russia's air defenses and sparked rare criticism from Russian war bloggers. Several pro-war commentators accused state media of downplaying the attacks and creating a false picture of the war, while analysts said the Kremlin focused more on controlling information than addressing the impact of the strikes.

Meanwhile, Russian drones struck two civilian merchant vessels in the Black Sea, killing one crew member and injuring five others. According to Ukrainian officials, the attacks targeted ships flying the flags of Panama and St. Kitts and Nevis. Ukraine condemned the strikes as attacks on freedom of navigation, international trade, and global food security.

Russia has concentrated around 11,000 troops near Kostiantynivka and continues assault attempts, while ISW says Moscow is exaggerating its battlefield gains and Ukrainian forces are resisting advances in the area.
