Russia's Lavrov lays out demands to US over Maduro and Iran

The United States should release Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro and stop attacks on the Iranian authorities, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said, as cited by the TASS agency.
"Russia insists on the immediate release of Maduro and his wife, as well as on preventing similar incidents from happening again," Lavrov noted.
He did not stop there, going on to voice Moscow's latest demand regarding Iran.
According to the Russian foreign minister, the Kremlin wants the United States to stop killing representatives of the Iranian regime.
"Russia considers the killing of the supreme leader and Iranian government officials an unacceptable manifestation of coercive dictate," Lavrov publicly complained.
He said a condition for resolving the situation around the Strait of Hormuz is restoring trust between Arab countries and Iran.
Along with accusations against the United States, Lavrov also leveled claims against Europe.
The Russian diplomat began alleging that European allies are helping Ukraine carry out strikes on Russian territory.
"Europe is doing everything it can to derail the prospect of peace talks on Ukraine, which the United States is also interested in," Lavrov falsely claimed.
He also cynically added that "all threats to Russia's security from Kyiv will be eliminated as a result of the special military operation" (the term used by Russian authorities for the war against Ukraine – ed.).
Notably, Lavrov recently explained whether Russia is ready to halt hostilities during negotiations with Ukraine.
The Russian foreign minister also publicly threatened Europe with a "very short" war.
