Tomorrow, September 8, Russia will hold “elections” to local authorities. However, they are not legitimate in the occupied Ukrainian Crimea, states Ukraine's Foreign Ministry.

The agency reminded that on Sunday, Russia is holding a United Election Day, during which elections to local authorities of Russia will be held. In particular, the aggressor country is once again trying to spread this process in the occupied Crimea, including the city of Sevastopol.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine emphasized that the so-called "elections" in Russia have long since turned into a farce and have nothing to do with the manifestation of democracy. In turn, their holding in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine is a violation of the norms and principles of international law.

“We emphasize once again that the results of the so-called “elections” in the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol are null and void, and the “elections” themselves are illegitimate,” the statement said.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also appealed to international partners and reminded that representatives of the Russian occupation forces operating in the occupied territories of Ukraine and elected during the “elections” are not authorized by the Ukrainian side to represent the Ukrainian authorities at any level.

"Their involvement in the delegations of Russia to international events does not have any legal consequences," the ministry added.

At the end of the appeal, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that all those involved in the preparation and holding of the so-called “elections” in the occupied territories of the Ukrainian state will be held accountable in accordance with the current legislation of Ukraine.

After 2.5 years of full-scale war, the Russian invaders have failed to form the so-called “authorities” in the occupied villages of Ukraine.
