Russia's nighttime drone attack on Kyiv: Air defense response
Russian forces attempted to attack Kyiv with drones again during the night of December 5–6. Air alerts were declared twice in the capital, lasting a total of four hours, according to the Kyiv City Military Administration (KCMA).
Serhii Popko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, said the enemy drones approached Kyiv in waves, mostly targeting isolated areas and coming from different directions. The Ukrainian Defense Forces detected and destroyed more than a dozen Russian UAVs that posed a threat to the capital. Popko added that the Ukrainian Air Force would disclose the exact number and type of drones.
Popko also informed that, according to preliminary data, debris had fallen in the city, but there were no significant damages or casualties.
"I urge everyone to strictly follow safety rules and seek shelter when an air alert is announced," he concluded, addressing Ukrainians.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported earlier that debris from a UAV had fallen onto the roadway in the Holosiivskyi district of the capital. He also clarified that there were no fires or casualties at that time.
Shortly afterward, the KCMA confirmed that debris from the enemy attack had been found in the Holosiivskyi district. They noted that it had fallen in an open area. It was also reported that the windows of a non-residential building had been damaged.
