Russia restricts disclosure of energy and refining data under new Putin decree

Russia is increasingly concealing information about its energy sector. In this way, the aggressor state is trying to avoid Western sanctions, according to Reuters.
Putin classifies energy-sector data
Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the relevant decree on September 28. The document further restricts the disclosure of information on energy resources and petroleum products in response to sanctions imposed by the United States and other Western countries.
The decree, aimed at making sanctions enforcement more difficult, sets out a number of restrictions on publications, including through the media.
It also limits the use of certain datasets related to:
- The nature of exports,
- Prices,
- Sellers,
- Buyers,
- Routes,
- Destinations of certain energy exports.
According to Reuters, such information may only be disclosed if the company involved in the transaction chooses to release the data.
The publication of relevant customs data is also restricted.
Russia has already classified several categories of information, including data on crude oil production, the agency noted.
Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that Ukraine had urged US President Donald Trump to implement the late Senator Lindsey Graham’s "bone crushing" sanctions bill against Russia.
In addition, Trump has said that he would impose sanctions on Russia if necessary.
