Russia reports explosions near Moscow and drone attack on oil terminal
Russians claim drone attack on St. Petersburg region overnight, January 18. One of the drones allegedly crashed and exploded on the premises of the Peterburgsky Oil Terminal oil and gas company. Explosions were also reportedly heard in two other regions, according to Russian Telegram channels.
According to online sources, a drone crashed and exploded on the premises of the Peterburgsky Oil Terminal oil and gas company overnight.
Russians report no casualties or damage as a result of the explosion, blaming Ukraine for the attack.
The Peterburgsky Oil Terminal is the largest Russian terminal for the transshipment of petroleum products in the Baltic region (capacity - 12.5 million tons per year).
Russian media also assert that Ukrainian forces allegedly attempted to attack the Leningrad region's seaport with kamikaze drones.
Russians claim that three drones were launched: two were allegedly suppressed by electronic warfare forces and fell into the Gulf of Finland, while another was shot down over the territory of the oil storage terminal around half past one in the night.
It is also reported that the drone debris fell in an open area of one of the elevator platforms in the port between the fuel oil tanks. After the fall, the drone exploded, resulting in a fire. The burning area was 130 square meters.
Explosions were also reportedly heard in two other regions in Russia.
Air defense systems were allegedly active in the Belgorod region, resulting in one person being injured.
The Russian Ministry of Defense also reported the alleged shooting down of drones over the Moscow region.
Furthermore, drones managed to fly over the Bryansk, Smolensk, Tver, and Novgorod regions.
Explosions in Russia
The Russian Ministry of Defense recently claimed that a drone was allegedly shot down in the Saratov region, blaming Ukraine. The governor of the region clarified that the drone was destroyed over the territory of the Engelsky district. There is the Engels airfield, where Russian strategic bombers Tu-160 and Tu-95MS are based, used for strikes against Ukraine.
Later, Russian media claimed that there were two drones, they were allegedly shot down and fell on the territory of the military airfield Engels 2.
According to RBC-Ukraine's sources in the special services, Ukrainian Security and Defense Forces are responsible for monitoring drone flights in that area.
Russians also claimed a drone attack overnight on January 11. According to them, a pumping station was allegedly damaged in Kaluga.
On the night of January 18, explosions were reported in the city of Podolsk in the Moscow region of the Russian Federation. Occupiers claim the alleged shooting down of a drone flying towards the Russian capital.
