Russia may keep missile carriers with unitary launch systems in the Caspian Sea. These carriers could launch not only Kalibr missiles, according to the spokesperson of the Ukrainian Navy, Dmytro Pletenchuk.

He said that the Russians also have cruise missile carriers in the Caspian Sea, as they do in the Black and Azov Seas. In the Caspian Sea, there could also be carriers with unitary launch systems. However, this information is still being verified.

"Unlike our Azov-Black Sea region, here they have 8 carriers that can only launch Kalibrs. That is, on some other projects, they already have unitary systems that could theoretically launch Onyx and Zircons missiles. There may be such specimens in the Caspian Flotilla," the spokesperson said.

Pletenchuk added that there are at least a few cruise missile carriers in the Caspian region. According to him, the technical specifications allow them to be used from that area, but there are no confirmed cases so far.

Strike on the Caspian

On November 6, drones from the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense attacked the Russian flotilla in the Caspian Sea for the first time. The flotilla had been shelling Ukrainian territory, and the 177th Marine Infantry Regiment was involved in combat operations in the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions.

According to sources from RBC-Ukraine, the missile ships Tatarstan and Dagestan, as well as small missile ships of the 21631 project, could have been damaged.

It is worth adding that Russia launched missiles at Ukraine from bombers in the Caspian Sea area. According to the Ukrainian Air Force, on the morning of November 15, Russia launched eight Tu-95MS bombers. They were heading to their launch positions, but no launches took place.

More on why Russia is "playing" with Tu-95 take-offs and whether a major missile attack is possible can be found in the RBC-Ukraine article.
