Ukraine's intelligence launches first drone attack on Russian ships in the Caspian Sea, sources say
The kamikaze drones of Defense Intelligence of Ukraine (DIU) have struck a Russian flotilla in the Caspian Sea for the first time. The distance from the Ukrainian border to the target was about 1,500 km, according to RBC-Ukraine sources in the intelligence.
On the morning of November 6, an attack was carried out with kamikaze drones, resulting in the destruction of at least two targets in the city of Kaspiysk, located in the Republic of Dagestan, Russia.
Tatarstan and Dagestan missile ships, as well as small missile ships of Project 21631, were likely damaged.
According to media reports, the targeted facility is the base of coastal defense units, including marine infantry forces. The attacked flotilla had been involved in launching missile strikes on Ukraine, and the 177th Naval Infantry Regiment had participated in combat operations in the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions.
Operations of DIU
Since the beginning of the full-scale war, the DIU has carried out several operations on Russian territory aimed at undermining the military and political structures of the aggressor state.
Ukrainian intelligence is actively engaged in hybrid warfare, using reconnaissance, sabotage, and information warfare methods. Among the approaches used are operations with drones, cyberattacks, explosions in strategically important locations, and strikes on logistics hubs, oil depots, railway hubs, and military airbases.
RBC-Ukraine has gathered some of the most significant DIU operations.
