Russia is on the verge of creating its own version of Starlink, and it will take less time to complete development than it seems, according to Robert Brovdi, call sing Magyar, commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

What Magyar says

"Starlink has been restricted for them; they have their own satellite system and already have prototypes of Starlink-like signal boosters. Yes, they are crude, they are easily detectable, they are large in size, and so on. But it’s a matter of time. Within a year, they will evolve and have their own alternative network along the entire front line," Brovdi states.

What Russians already have

According to the commander, Russia is not standing still. It now has its own satellite system and prototypes of signal-boosting devices that operate on a principle similar to Starlink.

The devices are still bulky and easily detectable. However, Magyar believes that the situation could change within a year.

If Russia establishes its own stable coverage network along the front line, this will significantly enhance its combat capabilities.

In March, Russia launched the first 16 satellites of its own Rassvet system into orbit, a potential replacement for Starlink for the military. To fully launch the network, they need several dozen more launches and mass production of ground terminals.

Seeking ways to circumvent restrictions, Russia continues to use Starlink on the front lines.
