Since the beginning of 2025, Russia's army has lost about 346,000 soldiers killed and wounded in the war against Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says in an interview with Axios.
According to the Ukrainian President, Ukrainian generals told him that Russia lost 346,000 soldiers killed and wounded in 2025.
Zelenskyy says this is almost identical to the number it has mobilized during this time.
The Russian side conceals and does not disclose the exact numbers of losses, constantly emphasizing the losses on the Ukrainian side.
Russia's losses in war against Ukraine
According to British intelligence, as of mid-October this year, Russia has lost about 1,118,000 military personnel since the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, including up to 332,000 members of its army this year.
According to statistics, the recorded level of losses of the Russian army decreased from March to August 2025, but in October it grew steadily, exceeding 1,000 people per day (between October 5 and 12).
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Russia's average daily losses last month were 950 people, which is higher than in August. At the same time, the Russian army's average daily losses in September were the lowest since April 2024.
British intelligence also reported on why Russia wants to introduce year-round conscription into the army. According to analysts, this decision is motivated, in particular, by the Russian authorities' desire to reduce the population's sensitivity to mobilization.
