Russia launches Zircon missile at Kyiv for second time, Defense Express
The Russian Federation launched Zircon missiles towards Kyiv on the morning of March 25th. This is the second publicly known use of this missile by the Russians, reports Defense Express.
According to the material, the enemy launched Zircon towards Kyiv, but they were successfully shot down directly in the sky above the capital. The primary analysis of the debris of two missiles, which were shot down but fell within the city limits, indicates that it was indeed Zircon that was shot down. The missiles were launched from Crimea.
This is presumably the second time the Russians have targeted the capital with Zircon. On February 7th, the remnants of the missile likely fell in the Desnianskyi district. However, their quantity was insufficient, and their identification took about five days.
This time, specialists collected more detailed debris and conducted a deeper analysis. In particular, they were able to provide an exact answer regarding the type of engine, guidance system, and materials used.
As noted by Defense Express, specialists have gathered a considerable amount of information. It will allow assessing the real capabilities of Zircon and the level of technology currently available to the Russian Federation for missile development.
Missile strike on Kyiv
Around 10:30 on March 25th, air raid sirens were sounded in parts of Ukraine, including Kyiv and its region. The Air Force warned of a ballistic threat. Explosions were heard in Kyiv almost immediately.
Debris from the missiles fell in several districts of the capital. In particular, a multi-story building in the Pecherskyi district was damaged as a result of the missile attack. Initially, there were reports of two casualties. Then the number of injured began to rise. Currently, it is known that five out of the ten injured individuals have experienced acute stress reactions.
It should be noted that the Russian Federation struck Kyiv with two ballistic missiles launched from the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea. They were successfully intercepted. This strike by the Russian Federation marks the third against the capital in the last five days. More details on the consequences of the attack can be found in the material by RBC-Ukraine.
Attacks with Zircon on Ukraine
Earlier, information appeared in the media that Russia may have used the anti-ship hypersonic missile ZM22 Zircon during a missile attack on the morning of February 7th.
At that time, the missile attack was primarily aimed at Kyiv, although Mykolaiv and Lviv regions were also shelled.
Putin practically confirmed the strikes with the anti-ship Zircon by speaking about the Russian-Ukrainian war at the end of last month during his speech.
