Russia launches over 130 drones at Ukraine, air defense responds
Russia launched 132 drones at Ukraine during the attack. Air defense forces shot down more than half of them, while over 70 drones did not reach their targets, according to the Air Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
During the night of December 14, the enemy attacked Ukraine with Shahed-type strike drones and other types of UAVs from areas around Kursk, Primorsko-Akhtarsk, Orel, Bryansk, and Millerovo.
“A total of 132 enemy drones were used in the attack,” the report stated.
Air defense forces in action
The air attack was countered by anti-aircraft missile troops, aviation, electronic warfare units, mobile fire groups of the Air Forces, and Ukraine’s Defense Forces.
“As of 09:00, the confirmed number of destroyed Shahed-type strike drones and other types of UAVs stands at 58,” the military reported.
Air defense forces shot down drones in the regions of Chernihiv, Sumy, Kyiv, Poltava, Cherkasy, Vinnytsia, Odesa, Mykolaiv, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, and Kirovohrad.
Additionally, due to active resistance from the Defense Forces, 72 enemy drones failed to reach their targets (locationally lost), and two drones returned to Russia.
Russian attack on Ukraine
Russian drones began terrorizing Ukraine from the evening of December 13. Specifically, during the night of December 14, invaders targeted Kyiv with drones, and air defense forces shot down over ten UAVs.
In Cherkasy province, air defense forces destroyed 25 Shaheds. There were also damages in the Kyiv region.
For comparison, during a massive attack on December 13, Russia launched nearly 200 drones. Notably, before this large-scale attack, the invaders had not launched drones into Ukraine for several days.
