Russia launches missile and drone attack on Ukraine: Air defense strikes back

Russia launched two ballistic missiles and 178 drones at Ukraine during the night of March 15. Air defense shot down most of the drones, according to the Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
"On the night of March 15, the enemy attacked with two Iskander-M ballistic missiles from the Kursk region and 178 Shahed-type strike UAVs, as well as various types of drone imitators," the report states.
The drones were launched from the following directions: Orel, Millerovo, Kursk, Bryansk, Primorsk-Akhtarsk, and Chauda (Crimea).
How air defense worked
The airstrike was repelled by aviation, anti-aircraft missile forces, electronic warfare units, and mobile fire groups of the Air Force and the Defense Forces of Ukraine.
"As of 8:30 AM, the downing of 130 Shahed-type strike UAVs and drones of other types has been confirmed," the military stated.
Air defense worked in the Kharkiv, Poltava, Sumy, Chernihiv, Cherkasy, Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytskyi, Kirovohrad, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Zaporizhia, Odesa, and Mykolaiv regions.
Additionally, 38 enemy drone imitators were lost in various locations (without negative consequences).
Consequences of Russia's attack on Ukraine
As a result of the Russian attack, the Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Odesa, Sumy, Chernihiv, and Kyiv regions were affected.
In particular, Russia attacked Dnipropetrovsk region with drones and artillery, causing damage to infrastructure. Power outages were recorded on railway sections.
It is worth noting that the invaders began attacking Ukraine with drones on the evening of March 14. Drones in Sumy and Odesa regions also damaged energy infrastructure.
