Russia launches drone attack on Ukraine overnight: Air defense downs dozens
The Russian army launched a drone attack on Ukraine overnight on January 4. A total of 81 unmanned aerial vehicles were launched, according to the Ukrainian Air Force on Telegram.
Russians launched drones from four directions: Bryansk, Kursk, Orel, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk.
As of 09:00, 34 strike drones and other types of unmanned aerial vehicles have been confirmed as shot down. Air defense forces were active in Poltava, Sumy, Kharkiv, Kyiv, Chernihiv, Cherkasy, Kirovohrad, Dnipropetrovsk, Odesa, and Mykolaiv regions.
Due to active countermeasures by the Defense Forces, 47 enemy location-simulating drones were lost.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, the downed UAVs caused damage in Chernihiv and Sumy regions, with private homes being damaged.
Russian night attacks
Russia continues its nightly air attacks on Ukraine. Since the beginning of the year, the enemy has been launching drones at Ukraine every night. As President Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted, within the first three days of the new year, the Russian army used over 300 strike drones and about 20 rockets, including ballistic ones.
On New Year's Eve, the Russians attacked Ukraine with 111 drones. In Kyiv, two people were killed as a result of the attack. On January 3, rescuers completed the debris removal in the capital after the enemy strike.
