On the first day of the new year, Russia attacked Kyiv with drones. Debris fell in several districts and fires broke out, according to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko and the Kyiv City Military Administration.

Sviatoshynskyi district

“There is a fire in a non-residential building in Sviatoshynskyi district,” Klitschko said.

The Kyiv City Military Administration clarified that Russian drone debris fell on a non-residential building in the Sviatoshynskyi district of the capital. A local fire broke out, and cars and garages were damaged.

According to the mayor, the attack smashed the windows of a residential building next to the garages where the fire broke out. The tramway was also partially damaged.

According to the mayor of the capital, tram tracks 100 meters from the tram depot were damaged. Glass in three trams was also damaged.

Pecherskyi district

Russian drone debris fell in several locations in the Pecherskyi district of Kyiv. According to Klitschko, a fire broke out on the roof of a residential building. The mayor reported partial destruction of the top two floors of a residential building in Pecherskyi district.

According to the Kyiv City Military Administration, the 6th to 4th floors of a six-story residential building were partially destroyed, followed by a fire in apartments on the 4th and 5th floors. The fire was localized to 70 square meters. Residents are being evacuated, and one woman was rescued.

There are also reports of Russian drone debris falling on a neighboring non-residential building in the Pecherskyi district. A fire broke out on the roof, covering an area of 80 square meters. The State Emergency Service of Ukraine reports that 75 rescuers and 19 fire and rescue equipment units are working at the scene.

Fire in National Bank of Ukraine building

The National Bank of Ukraine reported that a fire broke out on the roof of one of the National Bank of Ukraine's buildings in the Pecherskyi district as a result of the fall of Russian drone debris.

Rescuers extinguished the fire, no one was injured. Windows on the upper floors were damaged.

“All operating systems and services of the National Bank are fully operational, without any changes,” the NBU emphasized.

Killed and injured

As of 8:25 a.m. Kyiv time, there are 3 victims in Pecherskyi district. 2 of them were hospitalized.

As of 9:05 a.m.. Kyiv time, Klitschko said that the number of injured has increased to four. Two of the victims were hospitalized. Two were treated on the spot. Most of the victims are from the Pecherskyi district.

Updated at 9:35 a.m. Kyiv time. According to the mayor, there are already 6 injured in Kyiv. Two of them were hospitalized, and four were treated on the spot, including a pregnant woman.

At the same time, the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, Tymur Tkachenko, reports five victims, two of whom were hospitalized.

Updated at 11:35 a.m. Kyiv time. Kyiv City Military Administration reported that the body of a dead woman was found under the rubble of a house in Pecherskyi district. According to the Prosecutor General's Office, the number of victims has increased to 7, including 2 pregnant women.

New Year's Eve Russian drone attack

On New Year's Eve, Russian occupiers attacked Ukraine with drones. The movement of Russian drones was recorded in Sumy, Kyiv, Chernihiv, Zhytomyr, Poltava, Cherkasy, Kharkiv, Kirovohrad, Dnipropetrovsk, Khmelnytskyi, and Rivne regions.

On the morning of January 1, Ukrainian air defense forces were operating in Kyiv, and explosions were heard.
