The Kremlin has been a source of pain and evil for both Ukraine and Poland for over 300 years, according to Piotr Łukasiewicz, Poland's chargé d’affaires in Ukraine.
Łukasiewicz emphasizes that the Russian invasion and aggression against Ukraine serve as a reminder of history. According to him, Ukraine and Poland must learn from history rather than focus on what divides them.
"This is the essence of this region's history: the source of pain, suffering, and evil in international relations (if one can reconcile morality and politics) lies in the Kremlin. And it has always been this way—for the past 300 to 400 years," the diplomat says.
"There are minor misunderstandings between us, but we know where the main problems stem from. And we certainly won't back down in our response to this," he adds.
During the conversation, the diplomat was asked whether he agreed with Ukraine's ambassador to Poland, Vasyl Bodnar, who stated in an interview with RBC-Ukraine that there was no enemy other than Russia.
"Absolutely. There are public opinion polls and studies on this subject. And the Poles see this," Łukasiewicz replies.
"Even this extensive experience of taking in refugees, taking in Ukrainians fleeing the war, was both a fraternal act of assistance and a painful lesson based on what we ourselves had experienced earlier. So it is absolutely true: Russia is the source of all the problems," the chargé d’affaires emphasizes.
In June, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that any negotiations to end the war must take place with Poland's participation.
He also expressed dissatisfaction with the E3 format, which includes only the United Kingdom, Germany, and France.
In July, Tusk rejected calls from the opposition to block aid to Ukraine.
He responded to remarks made by Przemysław Czarnek, the Law and Justice party's candidate for prime minister, who demanded that Warsaw force the EU to stop funding arms for Ukraine and its reconstruction.
