Russia hits Ukraine with rockets and Shaheds: Interception tally
On the night of August 18, Russia launched a series of attacks on Ukraine using various types of missiles and kamikaze drones. Most enemy targets were intercepted, reports Ukrainian Air Force Commander Mykola Oleshchuk on Telegram.
This night, the enemy attacked Ukraine with ballistic missiles from the Kursk and Voronezh regions, cruise and guided air missiles, and strike drones from the Kursk region.
A total of 16 enemy targets were identified, including:
- 1 Iskander-M ballistic missile
- 2 KN-23 ballistic missiles
- 2 Kh-59 guided air missiles
- 3 cruise missiles (type unspecified)
- 8 Shahed drones
Ukrainian defenders destroyed two North Korean KN-23 missiles, three cruise missiles, and all the drones. Air defense operations were conducted in Kyiv, Sumy, and Poltava regions.
Oleshchuk noted that the remaining missiles, not counted among the destroyed ones, did not reach their intended targets.
Details of the night attack
The launches of kamikaze drones by the Russians were reported after midnight, leading to air alerts in several regions. The movement of Shahed drones was detected in Sumy, Poltava, Chernihiv, Kyiv, and Kirovohrad regions.
Additionally, Russians attacked Kyiv in two waves. According to the Kyiv City Military Administration, North Korean KN-23 ballistic missiles were fired at the capital. They were destroyed in flight and did not reach their targets. At the same time, several strike drones were approaching Kyiv.
During the second wave, Russian forces reportedly launched Iskander-K cruise missiles at Kyiv, which were also destroyed.
There were no hits or casualties reported in Kyiv as a result of the attack.
