On the night of July 16, Russian forces attacked Ukraine with a ballistic missile and over 400 drones of various types. The main targets of the strike were Kryvyi Rih, Kharkiv, and Vinnytsia, according to the Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

During the attack, Russia used:

  • An Iskander-M ballistic missile

  • 400 strike UAVs of the Shahed type and decoy drones

Launches were carried out from temporarily occupied Crimea and several regions of Russia, including Shatalovo, Bryansk, Kursk, Millerovo, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk. Kryvyi Rih, Kharkiv, and Vinnytsia were the primary targets.

To repel the aerial attack, air defense forces were deployed, including aircraft, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare units, mobile fire groups, and unmanned systems of Ukraine’s Defense Forces.

As of 8:30 a.m., 198 enemy strike drones were confirmed shot down in the north, south, east, and center of the country.

In addition, 145 decoy drones were suppressed using electronic warfare systems.

"One missile and 57 UAV hits were recorded in 12 locations, and debris from downed drones fell in two locations," the Air Force reported.
