Russian forces attacked energy facilities in the Mykolaiv and Zaporizhzhia regions overnight on January 2, leaving parts of the areas without electricity, the Deputy Energy Minister of Ukraine, Roman Andarak, stated.

“On the second day of the new year, the enemy continued attacks on energy infrastructure facilities. Overnight strikes were recorded in the Mykolaiv and Zaporizhzhia regions,” Andarak said.

According to him, as of the morning, consumers in the Zaporizhzhia region remain without power, including in the city of Zaporizhzhia, as well as in other frontline regions.

Restoration of equipment previously damaged by the enemy is ongoing in the Odesa and Kyiv regions. In particular, in the Odesa region, more than 11,000 consumers remain without electricity following earlier attacks. Emergency repair work is underway.

In addition, due to adverse weather conditions, 27 settlements in the Ivano-Frankivsk region and 17 settlements in the Lviv region are without power. Repair crews are working to restore power lines.

The deputy minister noted that electricity imports are being carried out to balance the energy system, and consumption restriction measures are being applied. In most regions, hourly power outage schedules and power limitation schedules for industry and businesses are in effect.

Strikes on energy infrastructure

Russia has been systematically carrying out massive missile and drone strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. Enemy attacks have caused significant damage and widespread power outages.

One of the most recent large-scale attacks took place on December 27.

With the start of the new year, Russia has continued shelling Ukraine’s energy facilities.

According to the Ministry of Energy, on January 1 the enemy carried out a drone attack on energy facilities in several regions of the country.

As a result of the strikes, a significant number of consumers were left without electricity in the Volyn and Odesa regions, and new power outages were also recorded in the Chernihiv region.
