Russia hits oil and gas facilities in Ukraine's Poltava region

On the night of August 19, Russian forces carried out another attack on the oil refining and gas infrastructure of the Poltava region. The enemy used cruise missiles and attack drones, according to the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine.
The attack caused large-scale fires. Several key energy facilities were damaged, including one of the production facilities of Ukraine’s gas transmission system. Preliminary reports indicate damage to the surface infrastructure of the facility.
Experts note that the scale of destruction and the nature of the strikes indicate a deliberate attempt to destroy critical infrastructure.
A technical inspection of the damaged equipment is currently being carried out, and the scale of losses is being assessed.
The Ministry of Energy emphasizes that such actions are a direct violation of international humanitarian law. Since March 2025, more than 2,900 attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure have been recorded. The previous serious strikes on oil refining facilities in the Poltava region took place on June 15 and 21.
