One of the reasons for the increase in the intensity of Russian shelling of Dnipro is the unblocking of a previously agreed EU reparations loan for Ukraine for 90 billion euros, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated during a joint press conference with President of Moldova Maia Sandu in Kyiv.
According to the president, it is precisely the EU loan that is the reason for Russia’s massive attack on Dnipro on April 25, which lasted more than 20 hours.
“Now we have unblocked the money. This is a reaction. In my opinion, this is reaction number one to the fact that they understand Ukraine is not alone and that there are finances for domestic production,” Zelenskyy said.
Massive Russian attack on Dnipro
As a reminder, on April 25, Dnipro became the main target of a massive combined Russian strike.
The attack, which lasted more than 20 hours, caused numerous civilian casualties and widespread destruction in residential areas.
During the clearing of rubble after the nighttime strikes, a “one-in-a-million case” became known — in one of the apartment buildings, an enemy Shahed drone flew directly into an apartment window but, fortunately, did not detonate immediately, which saved the residents’ lives.
The most severe consequences were recorded after a nighttime strike on a residential building.
Rescuers noted that up to five people could have been under the rubble, and the search operation at the site of the tragedy continued throughout the day. In total, the number of injured people in the city approached fifty over the course of the day.
