The Russian authorities have decided to create the Belgorod, Kursk, and Bryansk military groups. They are to protect the territory from drone attacks and more, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense.

According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, a meeting was held today under the leadership of Defense Minister Andrey Belousov with the coordination council for border security of Kursk, Belgorod, and Bryansk regions.

During the meeting, it was decided to create the Belgorod, Kursk, and Bryansk groups of troops, which should report to the coordination council.

In particular, the three groups of troops will be responsible “for protecting citizens and territories from attacks by drones and other means of attack” together with a representative of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces.

What preceded it

Two weeks ago, Ukrainian soldiers entered the territory of the Kursk region. The Russian forces were unable to hold back their advance - the border was defended by inexperienced soldiers, and conscripts were also stationed there.

Ukrainian soldiers managed to take control of an area of 1,500 square kilometers and 92 settlements.

Many Russian soldiers were also captured. According to The Washington Post, around 250 Russian conscripts were delivered to one of the Ukrainian prisons within ten days.

At the same time, after the report of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that the priority in the operation in Kursk region is to replenish the exchange fund.
